Hi, I’m Rusty Santos. I’m a producer, mixer, and musician active in Los Angeles, New York City, and beyond.
I’ve worked with pop experimentalists Animal Collective, the footwork pioneer DJ Rashad, avant-garde jazz innovators Dawn of Midi, and I have credits on albums by Beach House and Weyes Blood. I’m drawn to new sonic possibilities. I’ve worked extensively in Beijing, Mexico City, Lisbon, and spent formative years in New York City and Los Angeles.
My work centers on the artist. Collaboration is essential. My experience with music is shaped by subliminal influences. I work intuitively, seeking out where the acoustic world and production intersect. Recording, to me, is electro-acoustic. It can include composition and technical elements, though neither is the emphasis. Whether the sound occurs on stage or on a recording, my task is to capture both the electrical and biological aspects in order to emphasize the human.
Activating the listener’s imagination is key. Even the most experimental records are made to engage and entertain the audience. My aim is to record timeless songs that are pushed to their electronic and acoustic extremes. Let’s make something new.
